Weekly Greenwich Village Tours

On a recent foray into the hidden jazz haunts of Greenwich Village with my client Juan Carlos of Spain, we discovered three amazing talents performing in three Village hideaways.  In the East Village we caught the last hour of Arthur Sterling's solo piano concert at 6:00 PM in a rare smoke and alcohol-free venue called 5C Cultural Center.  After the set, the spare audience of six mingled with Mr. Sterling and the cafe's proprietor/curator, Bruce Morris, who regaled us with first hand accounts of the jazz history of the area. 

Then we walked over to Charlie Parker Place, the site of Bird's home on Ave B, where we luckily just missed the cross-town bus (while walking along we greeted David Byrne of the Talking Heads as he bicycled by on 9th Street).

Our next stopover was in the West Village to catch an exciting and innovative set by the Eri Yamamoto Trio -- sitting inches away from the band at Arthur's Tavern, the oldest surviving jazz dive in NYC.

For a change of pace we followed this up by checking out a charming vocalist, Yardena, and her swinging trio's second set of the night at The Garage, which is also a fine restaurant and oyster bar.

I'm going back for more each Thursday starting at 5:30 PM sharp, and have space for 6 more guests each night.   The meeting place will be at the Orpheum Theater on Second Ave. between St. Marks and 7th Street.

This Greenwich Village Jazz Package Includes:
Three sets of music.
Two drinks from the bar.
One full dinner: Salad; choice of Penne Ala Vodka or Roast Garlic Crusted Boneless Chicken; Tiramisu for dessert; and bottomless soft drinks, coffee and tea.

The tour begins at 5:30 sharp.  We will sit down for dinner at 9:30 and the tour will end in the West Village at 11:00 PM.  (Light snacks will be available for purchase at the 5C Cultural Center at 6:00 PM).  Public transportation is not included.

The cost is $100, payable by Visa or Master Card, personal check or cash.

After a three month hot-lick hiatus, JAZZ-AT-NOON will inaugurate a new season of lunchtime jam sessions. This season's weekly Friday mainstream performances will take place on the ample stage of the spacious and reasonably priced (no music cover-charge, $12 minimum) Café St. Bart's on the North East corner of Park Avenue and 50th Street in Manhattan.

These Plaza jazz sessions feature many well known artists at Saint Peter's Church (619 Lexington Ave) every Thursday at 12:30 P.M.  outdoors on the Citigroup Plaza.  Bring your lunch. A donation of $5.00 is requested. 

Jazz Vespers every Sunday at 5:00 PM.  A Worship Service in jazz featuring internationally known and aspiring jazz artists.
